The SX4 S-Cross is a popular compact crossover SUV produced by Suzuki to compete in what is now the most crowded market sector.
It only comes with 1 engine option, known as the “Boosterjet” 1.4L turbocharged gasoline unit outputting up to 128-hp and 173 lb-ft of torque.
The powertrain is augmented with a new 48-volt mild-hybrid system that is a boosted version of the system used in the 2016 Suzuki Swift.
The company claims the engine delivers an efficiency of 43.3-mpg and 20 percent improvement in running costs.
The 48-volt system is a big jump up from the previous 12-volt system used in the Swift, and the extra torque put in helps compensate for the additional weight of the electrified systems.
The 2021 version is essentially the same model as the facelifted model from 2016, with a few minor changes and additions, including the mild hybrid system.
The infotainment system, though somewhat dated, works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for more familiar formats and apps, and is still a solid and dependable system.
Inside, it is fairly spacious thanks to a decent 102-inch wheelbase that creates ample legroom.
Its materials aren’t especially high-end, which is a bit disappointing on a car that started at around $31,000 when new.
Of course, the 2021 model is cheaper now that the 2022 edition has already arrived.
Another spacious area is the trunk at 15.1 cubic feet, which is a strong offering for this class of compact crossover SUVs.
The floor also lifts up for additional trunk storage, and there are added cubbies back there.
For those who want to feel the difference in driving dynamics, however, the top-end Allgrip trim also offers an adjustable drivetrain from 2WD to 4WD and is lockable in 4WD when needed, too, which is not a typical feature on this kind of crossover.
