Since 2017, the Hyundai Ioniq has been impressing people with its great value, fuel economy and handsome features that seem to outrank its humble price tag. The first thing people love about the Ioniq Hybrid is that they know it will deliver a great economy, but more importantly, it doesn’t look like the Toyota Prius. This is the hybrid you choose when you don’t want people to know immediately it’s a hybrid - as it looks exactly the same as the 2022 electric version.

The 2022 Ioniq delivers up to 59-mpg in hybrid form, and the plug-in hybrid gives an impressive 29 miles of all-electric range. That kind of electric range allows you to do your daily errands without relying on the petrol engine at all, or at least very little.

It’s not a refined or dynamic drive, but that’s perhaps not a surprise for a hybrid model. The mechanics are reliable, however, with a standard 1.6L 4-cylinder engine under the hood, a single electric motor and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for gasoline driving. It accelerates to 60 in 8.9 seconds and outputs up to 139-hp, which is far from the worst in the pack.

One really great aspect is that even at the base trim, you get delivered to you a car that is attractive inside and out. Hyundai has done great sourcing sustainable, attractive materials to make it look and feel quite high-end while actually remaining one of the most affordable hybrid cars on the market.

All Ioniq Hybrid models get an 8-inch touchscreen as standard, with the top trims getting a 10.3-inch screen. It’s all compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the interior is kitted out with USB ports, and 26.5 cubic feet of cargo space. The main downside for the interior is that the rear seats aren’t the most spacious with just 35.7 inches of rear legroom and 37.4 inches of headroom.
