For 2022 the trend seems to be for crossover SUV lines to get a new "rugged" trim.

This is definitely true for the new Subaru Forester which is gaining a Wilderness branded trim.

By adding this Wilderness trim to your 2022 Forester you gain additional ground clearance and an altered exterior.

On the outside, the car looks tougher with thicker panels and arches to give the appearance the car is more for offroading.

Inside the tough version of the car are a new panoramic roof and an infotainment system with gesture controls (hand signal-controlled).

For all of the 2022 Foresters across all trims, the technology has been updated to handle some of the automaker's new features already seen in other models.

The updated EyeSight system from Subaru takes advantage of the increased cameras around the car which improves the automatic emergency steering system.

To improve the fuel economy all new models also feature the start-stop feature that automatically switches the engine on and off at traffic lights.

This 2022 Subaru Forester is part of the fifth-generation design for the compact crossover SUV originally based on the Impreza.

That fifth generation came in during the 2019 model year and brought in new hybrid drivetrains to the model for the first time.

Nowadays the car is built on a platform that it shares with the Impreza but it also shares it with almost every other line from the Japanese automaker.
