With nearly 4 million units sold since its introduction in 2006, the Qashqai has been a revelation for Nissan globally, especially in the Europe (the Qashqai is one of the UK’s most popular cars) and Australian markets.

However, with its second generation debuting in 2013, the Qashqai nameplate is long overdue for an overhaul, and that is precisely what it gets with the 2023 Nissan Qashqai. With this new third-generation model, Nissan brings dramatic changes to the car’s design, interior, and performance to further edge it towards a position at the top of its class.

While the 2023 Qashqai still maintains enough of the old version’s profile for it to be recognizable, it brings new, more eye-catching aesthetics thanks to its refined lines, svelte rear end, and a new dominant V-shaped grille that gives the vehicle’s front a more aggressive character.

Inside, this drive towards increased refinement continues with a facelift to the interior that elevates the Qashqai from levels of basic offerings in its class to one of the top options in the segment. You now get leatherette paddings on surfaces, soft-touch plastic panels, considerable improvement in the quality of the upholstery, and new HD displays that give the Qashqai ambiance that punches above its weight class, even holding its own against higher-priced options like the Mazda CX-30.

Further enhancing the feel of the driver seat is the broad, upright dashboard fascia that combines with the elevated driving position to create a more commanding experience than you would expect in this nameplate. However, you do not get an ambient lighting option, which is a slight letdown in a cabin with so much going for it.

All 2023 Nissan Qashqai come fitted with a 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that makes 147.5 hp (110 kW) and 250 pound-feet of torque—the same engine is used in some Mercedes-Benz models like the CLA, GLA, and GLB and the Renault Arkana and Captur. This new engine offers a slight power improvement over the old 2.0-litre engine with 143 hp (106 kW) and 200 Nm.

In most regions, the new Qashqai only comes with front-wheel drive and a CVT automatic gearbox. Some countries also have a manual option for the Qashqai.
