Arguably the flagship model of Audi’s eclectic range, the 2019 Audi A4 sedan continues to be popular after many years of sales and countless millions of miles covered by A4 owners. The 2019 A4 received several updates from Audi, but it wasn’t an exhaustive redesign as happened with the A6 in that model year.

New features in 2019 included S-line bumpers, trapezoid exhaust tips, additional USB ports for the interior, and an optional wireless charging pad to help declutter the cabin of wires. A Sport Package was also added, giving a new finely-tuned suspension, sports seats and a new headliner made of black cloth.

The 2019 was a year early, however, for an infotainment upgrade, with the 2020 A4 model getting the updated MMI infotainment system. Another unfortunate omission for some was the 6-speed manual transmission, which was no longer available in 2019.

Under the hood, the 2019 A4 was powered by a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine outputting up to 252-hp, or a toned down and more fuel-efficient version of that delivering 190-hp. Both powertrains are paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission, and Audi’s quattro AWD system is optional.

There are 3 trim levels to choose from, namely Premium starting at $38,395, Premium Plus starting at $42,395, and the top-level Prestige starting at $45,695. On the road these models are sharp, responsive and comfortable, feeling just as at home on city streets as they do on twisty country roads.

The interior features high-quality materials and design, with no sign of cheap scratchy plastics. The infotainment system comprises a 7-inch central screen which unfortunately is rotary-knob controlled. A larger 8.3-inch model is optional, and the 2019 A4 does include Audi’s Virtual Cockpit with its 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. A nifty upgrade to the sound system delivers a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio experience.

The 2019 A4 remains among the most solid choices for an executive sedan or family car. It’s dependable, surprisingly fun to drive, and superbly appointed and comfortable inside.
