2019 Jimny

The Suzuki Jimny is the SUV that people love to underestimate, but then end up eating a truckload of humble pie afterward when they see how wrong they were. The 2019 model is part of the 4th generation which was first launched in the 2018 model year. It was first launched in Japan in July 2018 before spreading to other markets.

The 2019 Suzuki Jimny had found popularity in Europe, but was later on unfortunately discontinued because of tightening EU emissions standards that made the car less roadworthy in the eyes of the law, at least.

The 2019 Suzuki Jimny features 2 powertrain options, namely a 658cc 3-cylinder turbo, or a 1.4 inline-4. These are paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The larger engine generates up to 100.5-hp and 101.8 lb-ft of torque.

There were some very stylish exterior tweaks, most noticeably the new signature luminous green/yellow color. Classic features are there, too, such as the round headlights, vertical rectangle holes in the front grille and others.

Though it’s a small car, it still weighs up to 2,500-lbs because of the strengthened ladder frame chassis. This chassis is necessary because the 2019 Suzuki Jimny remains, first and foremost, an off-road vehicle! It features an approach angle of 37 degrees, a departure angle of 49 degrees, which is as good as what you’d get from fellow off-roaders like the Jeep Wrangler.

You can put the 2019 Jimny through virtually any off-road test and this small but mighty car will conquer it. Adjustable 4WD settings, hill start assist, hill descent control mode and many other features help the Jimny to handle anything that you put in front of it.

The interior is fairly sparse and simple, but that’s all part of its target market of off-road enthusiasts. It’s akin to the older Land Rover Defenders in this way - function over fashion.
