Originally the Suzuki Vitara started life as a small traditional SUV In the 1980s that was uncomfortable to ride in but great off-road.
Over the years the Japanese automaker sacrificed the off-road capability for comfort and safety.
They did away with the heavy running gear underneath the car and used the same equipment you would see underneath a road-going car instead.
This led to a much comfortable ride and reduction in weight that allowed the car to achieve a much better fuel economy.
Sales of the model speak for themselves with the new version of the car selling over 4 times as many now as it did during the 1990s.
This year's Vitara is built on the same platform as the Ignis, although that model is much smaller yet packs many of the same features.
2019 model year examples of the Suzuki Vitara are the first to be given a facelift by the company with changes such as a heightened bumper and new driver aids.
These new driver aids are powered by a radar system built into the newly redesigned bumper that can detect vehicles and other obstacles in front of the car.
