The 2022 Kia Stonic can be fitted with an optional safety pack and by doing so completely transforms the overall score.

According to Euro NCAP, without the optional safety pack upgrade the 2022 Stonic only scores 3 out of 5 stars overall.

With the upgrade, the crash-testing agency scored the car a full 5 out of 5 stars.

There is no choice of a hybrid drivetrain in the subcompact crossover SUV but it is small and light.

You can choose however to have a gasoline or diesel engine up front powering just the front wheels, there is no four-wheel drive upgrade available.

Underneath is the same chassis as the Rio, a subcompact car that is the Kia equivalent of the Hyundai i20.

It also shares its chassis with the 2022 Sportage road-going car - except with a taller SUV-like body on top.

2022 Kia Stonic models benefit from a facelift that was added to the car in the previous year.

This new facelift brought two new paint color options to the model as well as a refreshed front end - mostly focusing on the headlights.

Inside the 2022 Stonic is two new interior design packs to choose from and the infotainment system has a higher-resolution screen with new software.

Customers can now choose whether the infotainment system runs on Apple CarPlay or Android Auto - based on personal preference.
