2021 i20
While the US does enjoy a great selection of Hyundai vehicles, the compact Hyundai i20 is not currently available in any form. This smart hatchback was revamped for the 2021 model year and got some major changes.
It is built on the joint Hyundai-Kia K2 platform that you can also find underneath the Kia Rio and the Kia Seltos.
First, the exterior has been massively modernized with more angular lines, and the entire frame has been made longer, wider and lower for a more sporty profile. It rides on 16-inch alloys as standard, with 17-inch alloys available as an upgrade.
One other distinctive exterior feature is the bold crease lines both on the side panels and on the hood, the latter of which slope down to a new more aggressive-looking grille design. The rear end has a faux diffuser added, which is a little strange for a 1.0L engine car, but it all adds to the athletic allure.
On the inside, there’s quite a lot of hard scratchy plastic, but the entire look is softened with two-tone colors on the dash and in the upholstery. In addition, a brand-new and large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system has been added. It’s extremely intuitive and comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Digital instrument clusters are standard across all i20 models.
The trunk offers an impressive 12.4 cubic feet, which is just a bit more than the VW Polo offers. The false floor in the trunk is adjustable, and when in its highest position makes loading and unloading the cargo much easier than is typical in this class.
On the road, the i20 offers pleasing, light and smooth gear shifting, responsive braking, and a tight turning circle that makes maneuvering very simple even in the tightest spots. On the highway, it’s not the quietest ride, but even the small 1.0L engine has enough power to make the car very comfortable on any length of journey.
The 2021 Hyundai i20 started at around $24,500, but with new models rolling in for the 2022 model year, those prices are already coming down.
