The T-Roc was the first subcompact crossover SUV from the German automaker, released in 2017.
Underneath the car is the same platform that is used under the Golf and Polo models from the same manufacturer.
In terms of size, the chassis sits between the Golf and Polo in wheelbase, width and overall length but with a much taller body on top.
It is this tall body that allows the car to be classed as an SUV but with a lack of offroad equipment the car is also classed as a "crossover".
Many of the same engines and features are available on the T-Roc that you can find in the Golf.
The 2019 model of the VW T-Roc has both gasoline and diesel engine options with a small 1-liter turbocharged gasoline at the bottom of the list.
Those looking for a more exciting version of the car can opt for the R performance version (introduced in 2019) that sits on the company's 4Motion four-wheel-drive system.
It is also powered by the 2-liter turbocharged engine taken from the Golf R and from the outside is kitted out with additional sporty flair.
In 2019 the T-Roc sold more than 200,000 units in Europe alone served by assembly plants in both Germany and Portugal.
