Audi’s midsize SUV has been a smash hit for as long as it's been available. The 2020 Audi Q5 came with a number of upgrades, especially in its offering of standard features and in packages that were available to buyers.

It sits on the same platform as the A5 and the A4, sharing many of the same components including engine choices.

Buyers of the 2020 Audi Q5 enjoyed 18-inch standard alloy wheels on the entry-level model, as well as automatic high-beam headlights. The mid-level Premium Plus gained 19-inch alloys and a more comprehensive package of ADAS features: lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

In 2020 Audi offered the Convenience Plus package on the 2020 Audi Q5, so purchasing a model with that package adds in wireless device charging, as well as front and rear parking sensors.

Three trim levels are available in the 2020 Audi Q5 range, namely Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The same three trims were also applied to a plug-in hybrid version, which was brand-new for the 2020 model year. MSRP when new ranged from $44,295 for the Premium gasoline model, and $53,895 for the Premium PHEV model.

All Q5 models feature a standard 2.0L 4-cylinder engine outputting 252-hp paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission, and the brand’s signature Quattro all-wheel-drive technology. The PHEV had an added electric motor which took horsepower up to 349-hp combined.

On the road, people often praised the 2020 Q5 for its stability and traction provided mostly by the exceptional Quattro AWD system. Beyond that, the suspension was also in receipt of particular praise because it kept the ride quiet and comfortable even over rough asphalt surfaces.

Some commented that the steering was accurate but without much feedback for the driver, especially from the front wheels. Setting it to “Dynamic” mode helped somewhat, but there was always a feeling the steering felt somewhat artificial. Despite that, it handles itself as well on tightly winding country roads as it does on an Interstate highway.
