2024 Edge
Ford’s latest release under the Edge nameplate is beginning to lag behind most of the top competitors in the category; it still packs all of the robust, well-roundedness, and brand power to continue to attract prospective buyers.
With the 2024 Ford Edge, Ford does the bare minimum, changing almost nothing from the previous year and retaining most of the character from its mid-cycle facelift in 2019.
The Ford Edge—the first midsize crossover SUV marketed by the brand in North America—currently sits in between the compact crossover Ford Escape and the more giant Ford Explorer within Ford’s product lineup.
The 2024 Ford Edge retains its cargo build that forgoes the third row you would expect in a mid-size SUV of its size, opting instead for a two-row seat arrangement that prioritizes legroom and comfort for all passengers. Complementing the intended comfort-heavy character is a clean, understated cabin design with superior material selection but a less-than-perfect finish and fit.
Up front, while the infotainment unit remains the same 12-inch touchscreen display from last year (with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support,) you now get an extended complimentary period for both Ford’s streaming service—which now lasts for a year instead of a month—and the built-in navigation service—with the free trial extended from one year to three years.
Under the hood, things remain the same, with the base 250-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine returning. An upgrade to the Edge ST trim provides an improved experience with a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 that outputs 335 horsepower, which should be enough power behind the wheel for most buyers.
However, considering the starting prices of the 2024 trims, these combinations of power options, cabin richness, and overall design fall short of similarly priced competitors like the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Honda Passport and even three-row options like the Hyundai Palisade and the Kia Telluride.
