The Honda Pilot was first introduced back in the 2003 model year, and the 2022 Pilot is part of the third generation which first arrived back in 2016 but has been given numerous updates and facelifts since then.

It is a mid-size crossover SUV that was originally based on the Accord chassis but now shares it with the Odyssey and the Ridgeline.

The 2022 Pilot has a starting MSRP of $36,830, making it a little pricier in its segment, but offers a powerful and efficient 3.5L V6 engine outputting 280-hp.

At some extra cost, AWD drive can be added which augments tow capacity from 3,500 lbs to 5000 lbs.

For the 2022 edition, Honda has added full LED lights as standard, as well as an 8-inch standard touchscreen infotainment display with connectivity to both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

The previous entry-level LX and EX trim levels have been cut from the lineup, with the Sport now making up the base level, with the EX-L forming a more standard configuration.

Other trim levels include: Special Edition, TrailSport, Touring, and Elite.

Honda has joined the trend of many other OEMs in also offering a top-end “Black Edition” which features black exterior detailing, black leather interior, and 20-inch black gloss alloy wheels.

From the Special Edition trim upwards, buyers can expect a good raft of standard additions, like 20-inch alloys, powered hands-free tailgate, leather seats, sunroof, wireless device charging, roof rails and more.

Standard ADAS features include forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. That’s all part of Honda’s “Sensing” ADAS suite.

Those wanting to take their Pilot off-road should look to the TrailSport edition, which features all-terrain tires, Honda’s Intelligent Traction Management system, an AWD system, specially designed 18-inch black alloy wheels and unique leather seats with contrast stitching.

The power tailgate also comes in handy when you’re loading and unloading your outdoor gear.
