2019 Micra
The 2019 Nissan Micra has some pretty stiff competition in the UK and European markets where it finds most popularity. The likes of the VW Golf, Toyota Yaris and Aygo, as well as numerous offerings from Peugeot, Ford, Renault, Fiat and many others, present a real mountain to climb when it comes to winning people over.
The 2019 Nissan Micra was most noted for improving its engine quality on previous models where people had complained about the lack of power and dynamism in both the 1.0L and 0.9L models. The 2019 model featured a 1.0L 3-cylinder unit that outputs up to 100-hp. The top-end engine is a 1.0L turbocharged unit 117-hp.
The small engines are incredibly efficient, getting a combined fuel consumption rating of about 42-mpg. Nice exterior extras include 17-inch alloys, a lowered suspension, and a much-improved steering rack, but that requires a climb up the trim levels to get there. There’s even an “overboost” function that can add around 15 lb-ft of extra torque at the push of a button.
A nice addition to the transmission lineup is a CVT unit, which makes the 2019 Micra even more attractive to city dwellers who get bored and tired shifting between first and second in heavy traffic. The CVT is only available with the less-powerful engine option, however. The alternative transmission is a 6-speed manual.
The interior offers comfortable and supportive seats, a decent standard infotainment system in the form of Nissan Connect (but you can switch to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto if you prefer) and overall design that’s attractive, but hardly groundbreaking. The rear seats are very comfortable for kids and shorter people, but tall individuals will find head and legroom lacking.
The 2019 Nissan Micra is a solid choice for a daily runaround, but if you’re wanting something that adds the dynamic of being really fun to drive, you might look elsewhere. When reliability counts more than anything, however, this is a great one.
